Eight-year-old twins saved their disabled dad from a fire at their home in Littleborough, with the help of safety tips learnt at school.
The fire was sparked by an electrical fault in the kitchen, which caused the boiler to explode and flames to burn through the units and dishwasher.
Firefighters spent an hour extinguishing the blaze at the house in Springfield Avenue.
Cenek Zeman, aged 42, who is paralysed down his right-hand side after suffering a stroke last year was upstairs in his bedroom and unaware that the fire had broken out.
His sons Peter and Paul were playing in the house when they noticed that something smelled strange and followed the smoke to the kitchen.
They realised it was a fire and went to tell their dad, who used his stairlift to get to the ground floor.
He sent the children to a neighbour's house and switched the electricity off before phoning the fire brigade.
Mr Zeman said: "I am disabled and was upstairs in my room when the fire started in the kitchen.
"My two sons learned from firefighters at Littleborough Community Primary School what they had to do if a fire started and they did exactly what they were told.
"It's amazing that simply by remembering what the firefighters said they knew what to do.
