Rochdale: temporary local road closures and restrictions

Area: Rochdale
Reason: To install a new gas mains supply in the footpath.

Expected start and finish: Wednesday 14 February 2024 – Friday 22 March 2024.
Restriction and location: Temporary closure of the unnamed footpath leading from Shawclough Way for its entire length to Hillside Walk.
Alternative route: The alternative route will be the unnamed access to garages at the rear of 34–36 Hillside Walk.

Area: Rochdale
Reason: To make improvements to the junction.

Expected start and finish:

  • Monday 19 February 2024 – Monday 13 May 2024.
  • The 4-way traffic signals will only be used from 7am – 7pm, Mondays – Fridays when necessary between these dates.

Restriction and location:
Temporary single phase 4-way signals at the junction of Bury Road and Sandy Lane. The scheme involves:

  • Upgrading of the traffic signal ducting/chambers to allow the replacement of the traffic signal installation. The new signals will include controlled pedestrian/cyclist crossings.
  • Re-alignment of the kerb lines on all approaches and change of lane designation on Roch Valley Way to improve traffic flow and safety for vehicle movements.
  • Resurfacing of footways and carriageway and new road markings to tie-in on all approaches.

Area: Rochdale
Reason: To install electricity utilities equipment in the road.

Expected start and finish: Monday 11 March 2024 – Friday 5 April 2024.
Restriction and location:
The work will be carried out in the following 3 phases:

  • Closure of part of Kingsland Road. This will be from the junction with Crescent Road to the junction of Clovelly Street.
  • Closure of another part of Kingsland Road. This will be from the junction with Clovelly Street to the junction with Bideford Road.
  • Closure of a third part of Kingsland Road. This will be from the junction with Bideford Road to a point 60 metres in a south easterly direction.

Alternative route:

  1. For the first phase, the alternative route will be Crescent Road, Grisedale Road and Eskdale Avenue.
  2. For the second phase, the alternative route will be Clovelly Street, Abbott Street and Bideford Road.
  3. For the third phase, there will be no alternative route available.

Reason: To resurface the road.

Expected start and finish: Monday, 11 March 2024 – Sunday 2 June 2024.
Restriction and location: Temporary closure of Norman Road, from its junction with Dane Street to a point 470 metres in a south westerly direction.
Alternative route: The alternative route will be signed onsite.
Organised by: Rochdale Borough Council

Area: Rochdale
Reason: To resurface the road.

Expected start and finish: Thursday 28 March 2024 – Sunday 14 April 2024.
Restriction and location: Temporary closure of part of Greenbank Road. This will start from the junction with Rossall Road and continue for 172 metres in an easterly direction.
Alternative route: The alternative route for vehicles will be signed onsite.

Area: Rochdale
Reason: To resurface the road.

Expected start and finish: Tuesday 2 April 2024 – Tuesday 9 April 2024.
Restriction and location:

  • Temporary closure of part of Shawfield Lane. This will start from its junction with Edenfield Road and continue to a point 205 metres in a north easterly direction.
  • Residential access will be maintained.

Alternative route: The alternative route for vehicles will be Keepers Drive, Seven Acres Lane, Knowl Hill Drive and Woodhouse Lane.

Area: Rochdale
Reason: To inspect a waste water manhole chamber in the road.

Expected start and finish: 2am – 5am, Sunday 7 April 2024.
Restriction and location: Temporary closure of part of Drake Street. This will start from a point 5 metres south of its junction with South Parade and continue for a distance of 20 metres in a southerly direction.
Alternative route:

  • The alternative route for buses will be South Parade, Newgate, St Mary's Gate, John Street, Molesworth Street, Milnrow Road and Drake Street,
  • Tram services won't be affected.

Area: Rochdale
Reason: To maintain the free flow of traffic along Bolton Road when Eid prayers are being held.

Expected start and finish: 7am – 11am each day, Tuesday 9 April 2024 – Thursday 11 April 2024.
Restriction and location: Prohibition of parking along both sides of a stretch of Bolton Road. This will begin from its junction with Marland Fold and continue for a distance of 150 metres in a south westerly direction.

Area: Rochdale
Reason: To hold the Tour de Manc 2024 cycling event.

Expected start and finish: 10am – 6pm, Sunday 5 May 2024.
Restriction and location:

  • Temporary one-way working along a part of Ashworth Road. Vehicles won't be permitted to travel in a northerly direction between the junction with Bury and Rochdale Old Road to its junction with Edenfield Road.
  • Vehicles won't be allowed to turn right onto Ashworth Road from Bury and Rochdale Old Road, Chapel Lane and School Lane while this order is active.
  • Vehicles won't be allowed to turn left onto Ashworth Road from Bury and Rochdale Old Road while this order is active.

Alternative route: The alternative route for vehicles is Bury and Rochdale Old Road, Norden Road, Bagslate Moor Road, Moorland Avenue, Edenfield Road and Ashworth Road.

Middleton: temporary local road closures and restrictions

Area: Middleton
Reason: To replace gas mains in the road.

Expected start and finish: Wednesday 14 February 2024 – Wednesday 27 March 2024.
Restriction and location:

  • Temporary closure of Hawkshead Drive, from a point 23 metres north of its junction with Fairfield Road for a distance of 190 metres in a north easterly direction.
  • Access will be provided if required and safe to do so.

Alternative route: The alternative route will be Hawkshead Drive and Fairfield Road.

Area: Middleton
Reason: To install new traffic calming measures in the road.

Expected start and finish: 9am – 4pm each day, Monday 11 March 2024 – Friday 22 March 2024.
Restriction and location:

  • Temporary closure of part of Broomfield Crescent. This will start from its junction with Oxendale Drive and run to the junction with Gowan Drive.
  • Access will be provided if required and it's safe to do so.

Alternative route: The alternative route for vehicles will be Broomfield Crescent and Bowness Road.

Area: Middleton
Reason: To carry out electrical works in the road.

Expected start and finish: Monday 18 March 2024 – Thursday 28 March 2024.
Restriction and location: Part of Ellis Road will be temporarily closed. This will start at Heywood Old Road and run for a distance of 260 metres in a south easterly direction.
Alternative route: The alternative route for vehicles will be Heywood Old Road, Manchester Old Road, Boardman Lane and Ellis Lane.

Heywood: temporary local road closures and restrictions

Area: Heywood
Reason: To facilitate highway improvements.

Expected start and finish: Friday 16 June 2023 – Friday 5 April 2024.
Restriction and location: Temporary 20mph speed limit on Pilsworth Road, from its junction with Moss Hall Road to the Heywood Distribution Park entrance.

Area: Heywood
Reason: To carry out works to the road and pavement on Queens Park Road Bridge.

Expected start and finish: Tuesday 19 March 2024 – Wednesday 20 March 2024.
Restriction and location: Temporary closure of part of Queens Park Road. This will start from the entrance to the Queens Park car park and extend to the junction with Bury and Rochdale Old Road.
Alternative route: The alternative route for vehicles will be Bury and Rochdale Old Road, Bamford Road, Market Place, York Street and Queens Park Road.

Area: Heywood
Reason: To carry out works to a new development.

Expected start and finish: Saturday 23 March 2024 – Saturday 17 August 2024.
Restriction and location:

  • Temporary closure of part of the easterly and northerly footways of Roeacre Street. This will start from its junction with Rochdale Road East to its junction with Green Lane.
  • This closure will only affect pedestrians and cyclists, not road traffic.

Area: Heywood
Reason: To install a new water connection in the road.

Expected start and finish: Wednesday 27 March 2024 – Thursday 28 March 2024.
Restriction and location: Temporary closure of Wesley Street. Access will be maintained.
Alternative route: The alternative route for vehicles is Hill Street, Fox Street and Brunswick Street.

Pennines: temporary local road closures and restrictions

Area: Pennines
Reason: To repair a gas escape in the footpath.

Expected start and finish: Friday 1 March 2024 – Friday 22 March 2024 or when complete if sooner.
Restriction and location: Temporary closure of part of Rogers Path. This starts from its junction with Whitelees Road to its junction with Hare Hill Road.
Alternative route: The alternative route for pedestrians is Whitelees Road, Hare Hill Road and Rogers Path.
Organised by: Rochdale Borough Council

Area: Pennines
Reason: To repair a chamber in the carriageway.

Expected start and finish: Monday 4 March 2024 – Monday 25 March 2024 or until the work is complete if sooner.
Restriction and location: Temporary closure of part of Ramsden Road. This will start at its junction with Crossfield Road and continue to its junction with Alpine Drive.
Alternative route: There is no alternative route for vehicles.
Organised by: Rochdale Borough Council

Area: Pennines
Reason: To carry out excavation and reinstatement works.

Expected start and finish: Tuesday 26 March 2024 – Monday 1 April 2024.
Restriction and location: Temporary closure of part of Old Road. This will start from its junction with Calliards Road and continue for 50 metres in a westerly direction.
Alternative route: There is no alternative diversion route.
Organised by: Rochdale Borough Council

Area: Pennines
Reason: To repair a leaking water main in the road.

Expected start and finish: Wednesday 10 April 2024 – Friday 12 April 2024.
Restriction and location: Temporary closure of part of Silver Hill. This will start at its junction with Kiln Lane and run for 20 metres in a north westerly direction.
Alternative route: The alternative route for vehicles will be Kiln Lane, Wildhouse Lane, Croft Head Drive and Silver Hill.

Area: Pennines
Reason: To repair a leaking water main in the road.

Expected start and finish: Saturday 13 April 2024 – Sunday 14 April 2024.
Restriction and location: Temporary closure of part of Finance Street. This will start from its junction with New Road and continue to a point 15 metres away in a north westerly direction.
Alternative route: The alternative route for vehicles will be New Road, Watling Street, James Street and Finance Street.
