Two Church Street buildings could be converted into shared housing
Two neighbouring commercial properties on Church Street, Littleborough, could be turned into shared housing under new proposals submitted to Rochdale Borough Council.
Plans have been lodged to convert 65 Church Street, formerly occupied by Versatile Accountants, into a three-bedroom House in Multiple Occupation (HMO). A separate application seeks permission to turn 69A Church Street, currently used as offices, into a seven-bedroom HMO.
If approved, both schemes would see the long-standing business premises repurposed for residential use. The planning documents suggest that the conversions would provide accommodation for local residents in line with housing demand, though it is not yet clear whether on-site parking or bin storage arrangements have been finalised.
Church Street already contains a mix of homes, shops, and professional services but some residents have raised concerns in similar cases across the borough about the growing number of HMOs.
The applications are on the council’s planning portal and open for comments.
