Littleborough Community Primary School Raises £6,390 for Manchester Children’s Hospital
Littleborough Community Primary School has once again shown the strength, kindness and unity that defines Littleborough, raising an incredible £6,390 for Manchester Children’s Hospital through a whole‑school sponsored run held on Monday 13th July.
The fundraiser was organised in support of Zak, a former pupil who is currently receiving treatment at the hospital. The money raised will help create a brand‑new cinema room, a comforting space where children and their families can relax, escape for a little while, and make cherished memories during difficult times.
Despite scorching temperatures, every child and teacher ran for ten minutes with remarkable effort and enthusiasm. The school praised the dedication shown by pupils of all ages, each running with pride to support Zak and other children receiving care.
Families across Littleborough rallied behind the event, sponsoring children, sharing the fundraiser and donating generously. Several families went above and beyond, raising hundreds of pounds each, significantly boosting the final total. The school expressed deep gratitude for the time, energy and kindness poured into collecting sponsorship.
A special mention goes to Sophia and Erin, whose hugely successful cake sale kick‑started the fundraiser and added over £500 to the final amount. Their initiative set the tone for what became an extraordinary community effort.
Zak’s parents shared an emotional message of thanks following the event, expressing how much the day meant to them.
They described feeling “overwhelmed with emotion,” especially when the entire school began clapping and chanting Zak’s name. Seeing pupils and staff dressed in blue, Zak’s favourite colour thanks to his love of Rochdale AFC and Manchester City, made the moment even more special.
Zak was thrilled to attend and be part of the day, and his family said they “couldn’t be prouder” of every child and teacher who ran in the heat to support him and Manchester Children’s Hospital.
They added:
“The kindness, support and generosity shown by everyone truly meant the world to us. Thank you for making the day so special. The love and support you’ve shown our family is something we’ll never forget, and we’ll treasure these memories forever.”
Their message ended with a heartfelt thank you to the entire school community for standing with Zak and helping make a lasting difference.
