New England Sofa Design Marks 40 Years with Celebration
New England Sofa Design, the family-operated upholstery and bespoke furniture company with roots deeply planted in Littleborough, marked its 40th anniversary with a gala gathering attended by family, friends, loyal customers and special guests including Rochdale’s Mayor, Janet Emsley.
Founded in 1985 by Suzanne and Philip Holmes, the business grew from humble beginnings in a garage into a thriving workshop and showroom on Todmorden Road. What began as the dream of two people passionate about British-made furniture and craftsmanship has become a generational enterprise.
At the celebratory event on Saturday, daughter Jemma, who now plays a leading role in the running of New England Sofa Design along with her sister Samantha, delivered a heartfelt speech. She paid tribute to her parents for their unwavering support when she took on more responsibility in the business. Jemma expressed her hope that in time she will be able to pass the business on to her own daughter - “to keep the legacy alive.”
Mayor Janet Emsley was among those to congratulate the Holmes family. She praised New England Sofa Design as a local business that has not only survived but thrived over decades and passed on to the next generation. She also commended the business for being eco-friendly and moving forward with sustainability.
