A new independent bookshop and gaming store is set to open its doors in Dearnley tomorrow, bringing books, board games and a community-focused space to the area.

The Dragon's Hoard, located at 92 New Road, Dearnley, Littleborough, will officially open on 1 October. The family-run venture aims to create a welcoming hub for readers, gamers and hobby enthusiasts of all ages.

The owners describe The Dragon's Hoard as a "cozy little bookshop and game store" that the whole family is involved in running, including their children.

Having previously operated a Friendly Local Game Store (FLGS) around a decade ago, the family recently relocated to the Rochdale borough and decided to create a shop that reflects their shared interests.

They said: "We decided to open a store that has something for all of us in. Hopefully we can meet new people, make friends and the kids will make new friends too."

The shop will offer a mix of new and pre-loved books covering all genres and age groups, alongside manga, graphic novels, board games, roleplaying games, handmade items and pocket-money purchases.

Plans are already in place to expand the range in the future, with trading card games (TCGs) and art supplies expected to be added.

However, The Dragon's Hoard is aiming to be much more than a retail space.  The owners have ambitions to build a community venue where people can come together to share interests, learn new skills and make connections. Gaming space is planned for the near future, with events expected to include board game nights, Dungeons & Dragons campaigns, book signings and other hobby-focused activities.

They are also hoping to establish book clubs and sessions for the home education community.

Explaining their vision, the owners said: "We really want to be community focused and work with new and existing clubs. We would love to be the nerd community hub where people can get great products, feel safe and meet like-minded people."

With an emphasis on creating a welcoming environment for families, readers and gamers alike, The Dragon's Hoard looks set to add a unique new destination to Littleborough's independent business community.

The Dragon's Hoard opens on Thursday 1 October at 92 New Road, Dearnley, Littleborough.
