Littleborough baker scoops Silver at prestigious British Pie Awards

The humble pie, a cornerstone of British culinary tradition, took centre stage at the annual British Pie Awards, a national celebration of this beloved dish. This year’s event, held in Melton Mowbray, the self-proclaimed “Rural Capital of Food,” saw bakers from across the nation vying for recognition in a multitude of categories.

The awards, hosted by the Melton Mowbray Pork Pie Association, highlight the sheer diversity and quality of British pies, a market that generates over £1 billion annually. From classic savoury fillings to innovative sweet creations, the event showcased the best of British baking.

Among the hundreds of entries, Sarah Green, owner of Sarah Green's Artisan Pies who operate as part of Bake 'N' Butty in Dearnley, emerged victorious, securing a Silver Award on her first attempt in the fiercely competitive Beef & Gravy Pie category with her delectable Peppered Steak Pie.

"It's an absolute honour," said a delighted Sarah. "The British Pie Awards are the pinnacle for any pie maker, and to be recognised amongst so many talented bakers is truly incredible. I'm so proud that my Peppered Steak Pie has been awarded Silver. I'd also like to give a massive thank you to my staff and my customers for their continued support."

The British Pie Awards, a testament to the nation's enduring love affair with the pie, reaffirmed its status as a vital part of British culinary heritage. The success of Sarah and Bake 'N' Butty serves as a shining example of the dedication and passion that goes into crafting these iconic British treats.

Congratulations to Sarah on her well-deserved achievement.
