Two People Killed in Light Aircraft Crash in Littleborough

Two people have sadly died following a light aircraft crash in Littleborough yesterday.

Emergency services were called shortly after 11am after reports that an aircraft had crashed in a farmland area of Littleborough. On arrival, officers and paramedics recovered the bodies of two men, who were pronounced dead at the scene.

Police have confirmed that it is not believed anyone else was on board the aircraft and there were no reported injuries on the ground.

The aircraft is believed to have been a Cirrus light aircraft, which had taken off earlier that morning from Birmingham. Greater Manchester Police (GMP) worked closely with other emergency services throughout the day, and a cordon remained in place around the area as investigations continued.

The Air Accident Investigation Branch (AAIB) attended the scene yesterday evening and has begun a full investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash.

National Grid also attended the scene to support the response and help make the area safe, and confirmed there should be no disruption to local electricity supplies.

Police advised that there may be some minor disruption to local residents while enquiries continue and thanked the community for their patience.

Chief Superintendent Danny Inglis, from GMP’s Rochdale district, said:
“This is a devastating incident where two people have lost their lives and our thoughts are with their families and friends.

“We have been working closely with emergency service colleagues and partner agencies throughout the day to establish the full circumstances and we will remain on scene as enquiries continue.

“There will be an enhanced presence as officers and investigators comprehensively survey the area and ensure all available evidence is recovered.

“If anyone has any information, or witnessed the crash, we would urge you to get in touch with us.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact police via 101 or through GMP’s Live Chat service, quoting log 1056 of 03/02/26.
