44 Drivers Caught as GMP Targets Speeding Hotspots in Littleborough and Wardle

Greater Manchester Police have carried out targeted speed enforcement across Littleborough and Wardle after a rise in complaints about dangerous driving in the area.

Speeding continues to be one of the most frequent concerns reported to the Neighbourhood Policing Team, with particular hotspots identified around Smithy Bridge and Birch Road.

Last Thursday and Friday, GMP’s mobile speed enforcement vans were deployed to both locations and the results were stark. Officers recorded 44 speeding vehicles, with the highest speed reaching 43mph in a 30mph zone.

Drivers caught exceeding the limit now face a range of consequences, including fines, speed awareness courses, fixed‑penalty tickets, and endorsements on their licence.

A spokesperson for the Neighbourhood Policing Team said the enforcement is part of ongoing efforts to keep local roads safe:

"By identifying and dealing with drivers who choose to ignore speed limits, we’re helping protect other motorists, cyclists and pedestrians."

Police say further enforcement will continue across Littleborough and Wardle as they respond to community concerns and work to reduce the risk of serious accidents.
