Yankee Heaven announces closure
After a decade of serving the community, Yankee Heaven has announced its closure. Owners Mark and Lauren Jones expressed their gratitude to loyal customers who have supported them since the shop's opening in 2014, and even prior to that, since they began the business in 2011.
The decision to close comes after a challenging two years, marked by difficulties with their previous landlord. Writing on Facebook, Lauren described the situation as a "complete nightmare," citing financial strain due to legal battles and emotional distress. They alleged that the landlord attempted to force them out of the premises under false pretences, causing significant damage to their business and personal lives. The dispute cost them over £7,000 in legal fees.
Despite the hardship, the couple proactively secured their future by purchasing a café in Todmorden 18 months ago and it is now known locally for its popular breakfasts. Initially intended as a separate venture, the café became a lifeline as the situation with Yankee Heaven deteriorated. Lauren praised the efforts of Saffron, who stepped in to manage Yankee Heaven during this difficult period.
Following the resolution of the legal issues with the previous landlord, the current landlord presented a new opportunity. After careful consideration, the owners decided to close Yankee Heaven. They explained that the emotional toll of the past two years, coupled with the new opportunity, led them to this difficult decision. “Our hearts just aren't in Yankee Heaven anymore,” they shared.
A closing-down sale is now underway, with massive discounts on all remaining stock. While the physical store is closing, the owners assured customers that their popular wax melts and perfumes will continue to be available. They are also planning a new venture in new premises and promise to keep customers updated on their plans.
The owners expressed their heartfelt thanks to the community for their support over the past ten years, emphasizing the personal connections they have made with their customers. They look forward to the next chapter and hope for continued support in their future endeavours.
