Littleborough resident, Richard Clarke, is celebrating the remarkable success of his two children's books, both inspired by the natural beauty of Blackstone Edge. With nearly three decades of experience as a PE teacher and behaviour lead, Richard has channelled his understanding of young minds into "The Calm Pond" series, which has garnered significant attention and topped Amazon's charts.

Richard's first book, 'Calm Pond,' released in 2023, quickly climbed to number 8 in Amazon's short stories for young adults, placing it alongside literary giants such as Roald Dahl, J.K. Rowling, and Enid Blyton. This initial success laid the groundwork for his latest triumph.

His second book, 'Further Adventures at Calm Pond,' launched in 2024, soared to number 1 in the Hot New Releases for Chapter Books and Short Story Collections on Amazon. Both books are designed for children aged 4 to 11 and feature a collection of nine short stories, each centred around a charming group of creatures inhabiting the area near Richard's home.

The "Calm Pond" series tackles a range of important themes for young readers. 'Calm Pond' explores concepts like equality, resilience, honesty, change, strengths and weaknesses, anxiety, differences, empathy, bereavement, and mental health. Building on this foundation, 'Further Adventures at Calm Pond' delves into patience, tests/exams, kindness, mindfulness, critical thinking, creativity, inclusion, courage, and compassion.

Beyond their digital success, the "Calm Pond" books have also received recognition from traditional media, being featured on BBC Radio and in various newspapers.
