Low Water Levels Force Cancellation of North of England Sprint Rowing Championship 2025
The North of England Sprint Rowing Championship, due to be held at Hollingworth Lake, Littleborough, on Saturday 30th August 2025, has been cancelled because of low water levels.
The annual regatta, organised by Hollingworth Lake Rowing Club, is one of the highlights of the northern rowing calendar. Last year’s event in 2024 attracted athletes from across the North of England, with junior, senior, and masters crews competing in a day of fast-paced sprint racing.
This summer’s cancellation comes as a disappointment to competitors and supporters, but organisers say the decision was unavoidable. “We are disappointed to not be hosting the regatta this year but with factors out of our control we are instead focusing on making next year’s regatta even bigger and better,” a spokesperson for Hollingworth Lake Rowing Club said.
The club added that while conditions on the lake currently make racing unsafe, plans are already underway to ensure the regatta returns stronger in 2026.
“While we can’t come together this summer, we look forward to seeing everyone back on Hollingworth Lake in 2026,” organisers said.
