Tributes have been paid to Ann Stott JP, former Councillor for Littleborough Lakeside ward, who passed away on 2 August.

Mrs Stott served on Rochdale Borough Council between 2011 and 2019, representing the Littleborough Lakeside ward for the Conservative Party. She was known for her tireless commitment to residents, her deep involvement in local groups, and her warm, approachable manner.

In 1996, she served as Mayoress of Rochdale when her late husband, Rodney H Stott MBE, was Mayor. The couple were well known throughout the borough for their dedication to public service. In recognition of her years of service, Mrs Stott was made an Honorary Alderwoman of the Borough in 2019.

Ann Stott was also an active member of Littleborough Events & associations Forum, The Coach House Trust the Littleborough Civic Trust, where she held the title of life member and remained engaged in community matters long after leaving elected office.

Pennine Conservative Councillors issued a heartfelt tribute on social media, describing her as “a devoted public servant, and a cherished member of our community.”

They wrote:

“Ann served as a dedicated ward councillor, renowned for her unwavering commitment to the people she represented. She gave her time selflessly, attending virtually every local event and engagement possible… Her presence brought calm and reassurance, whether at council meetings, community events, or informal conversations with residents.

In recent years, Ann’s health sadly declined, but her spirit never did. Even when unable to attend meetings in person, she stayed active behind the scenes, maintaining a keen interest in Civic Society and other local organisations, frequently sending comments, advice, and thoughtful contributions.

She is now reunited with Rodney, the love of her life. Together again, their love and legacy live on in the hearts of all who knew them. May she rest in peace.”

The Littleborough Civic Trust also expressed its sorrow, stating:

“It is with great sadness that we have to report the sad passing of one of our esteemed life members, Mrs Ann Stott, who passed away on Saturday.”

Mrs Stott leaves behind a lasting legacy of public service, community spirit, and kindness that will be remembered by all who knew her.
