Hollingworth Lake Rowing Club Calls on Local Businesses as Sprint Championships Return This August
Hollingworth Lake is set to take centre stage once again as the North of England Sprint Rowing Championships return on Saturday 22nd August 2026 and local businesses are being invited to play a vital part in making the event a success.
For many in Littleborough, the lake is more than a beauty spot. It’s a place of memories, sport, community and pride. Whether you once rowed there, know someone who trains on the water, or run a business along its shoreline, Hollingworth Lake Rowing Club says you are part of its “lakeside family”.
Fluctuating water levels have made it difficult for the club to run its flagship event consistently in recent seasons. Determined to protect the regatta and ensure ideal racing conditions, organisers have brought the championships forward by several weeks this year.
It’s a crucial move, because outside of London and the major Thames events, the Hollingworth Lake Sprint Championships stand as the biggest regatta of their kind in the country. Clubs travel from across the North of England, and well beyond, to compete.
This year, the club expects over 600 competitors, plus hundreds of spectators, families and supporters, creating a huge day of activity around the lake.
With visitors spending the entire day on site, the event is expected to bring a significant boost to the local economy. Cafés, restaurants, pubs, takeaways and hospitality venues around the lake are likely to see a surge in footfall as competitors and spectators look for food, drink and places to relax between races.
For many businesses, it’s one of the busiest days of the summer.
As a non‑profit community club, Hollingworth Lake Rowing Club relies on the regatta to help fund its sports programmes throughout the year. To support the event, they are inviting local businesses to come on board as sponsors, with several ways to get involved:
£50+ Contribution
A specific race will be named after your business and announced over the PA system throughout the day.
£100+ Contribution
Your business name will be attached to multiple races across the championships.
Sponsors can choose which category or race they wish to support, and the club will proudly display corporate banners or advertising boards inside the clubhouse or in the busy competitor village.
To secure sponsorship, businesses are asked to copy and complete the form below into an email and return it to keith_lawton@btinternet.com by Wednesday 19th August 2026.
Payment can be made by bank transfer (details provided below) or in cash on the day.
All sponsors are invited to attend the regatta and join the club later in the day for a drink in the bar, where they can meet the Committee and be thanked personally for their support. The Mayor of Rochdale has also been invited, adding to what promises to be a memorable day for the whole borough.
