Hollingworth Lake Rowing Club’s juniors made the most of the summer holidays this week with a fantastic two‑day Summer Camp packed with learning, teamwork and plenty of fun both on and off the water.

The camp brought together a brilliant group of young rowers keen to develop their skills, build confidence and embrace new challenges. Across the two days, juniors took part in a wide range of technical sculling sessions, focusing on blade depth at the finish, control through the slide and clean catches. Coaching took place across singles, doubles and quads, giving everyone the chance to refine their technique in different boats.

Video analysis played a big role too, helping the juniors understand the finer details of their stroke and put improvements into practice straight away. Coaches described the group as focused, enthusiastic and eager to learn - a perfect combination for progress.

One of the standout moments of the camp was the capsize training. After a demonstration from the Club Captain, every junior successfully completed the drill, gaining an essential safety skill and the confidence to stay calm and in control on the water.

The camp was led by Mike, whose expertise and passion for sculling shaped every session. Jason and Mike R provided invaluable support from the launch, making it a real team effort from start to finish.

And of course, no summer camp would be complete without a well‑earned chippy lunch - the perfect way to refuel after a busy morning on the lake.

HLRC said they were incredibly proud of how the juniors approached each challenge, worked together and made the most of every opportunity. With new skills under their belts and plenty of motivation, the club is excited to see their young rowers put everything into practice over the coming weeks.
