Young Artists Invited to Design the 2026 Christmas Lights Switch On Poster
Littleborough Events and Associations Forum (LEAF) has launched a brand‑new festive competition - and it’s giving local children the chance to shine brighter than the Christmas lights themselves.
In a celebration of creativity, talent and real artwork made by real people, LEAF is inviting primary‑age children (5–11 years old) to design the official poster for this year’s Littleborough Christmas Lights Switch On 2026.
The winning design won’t just be seen online, it will be printed and displayed in shop windows and community spaces across Littleborough, giving one young artist a moment of pride the whole town can share.
And that’s not all.
The winner will also take on the very special honour of switching on the Christmas lights at the event on Saturday 28th November, lighting up Littleborough Square in front of families, friends and festive visitors.
Children can use any materials or techniques - drawing, painting, collage, mixed media or digital art. LEAF encourages bold, colourful designs, but asks that no AI or Canva be used. This competition is all about celebrating genuine creativity from local children.
Artwork must be A4 size and in portrait orientation, and must include the following event details:
- Littleborough Christmas Lights Switch On
- Saturday 28th November
- 3:30pm – 5:45pm
- Littleborough Square
- Father Christmas & His Elves
- Musical Entertainment
- Stalls
- Carnival Games
Entries should be submitted by emailing a clear photograph or scan of the artwork to leaf@808solutions.com.
Families are asked to keep hold of the original, as it will be needed if their child is chosen as the winner.
Closing date for entries: Friday 16th October
Once entries close, a panel of LEAF volunteers will select the top three designs. These finalists will then be put to a public vote on LEAF’s Facebook page, where the artwork with the most likes by Friday 23rd October will be crowned the winner.
Only likes on LEAF’s original Facebook post will count towards the final total.
LEAF hopes the competition will inspire children across Littleborough to get creative and feel proud of their artistic talents. With the winning poster set to be displayed throughout the town, and the winner switching on the Christmas lights, it’s a chance for young artists to make their mark on one of Littleborough’s most cherished annual events.
