Tracey Ray's School of Dance Celebrates 20 Years in Littleborough

This month marks a major milestone for a beloved community institution, as Tracey Ray’s School of Dance celebrates its 20th anniversary. What began as a few dance classes above The Beach at Hollingworth Lake in 2005 has grown into one of Littleborough’s most cherished creative spaces, nurturing hundreds of dancers and cheerleaders over two decades.

Tracey Ray, the founder and heart behind the school, launched her dream shortly after earning a First Class BA (Hons) in Dance from Sunderland University in 2004. “I moved home with a big student loan and started working at the Wheatsheaf Pub,” Tracey recalls. “I just knew I wanted to dance, and more than anything, I wanted to teach children to dance.”

With ambition and a handful of printed posters in local shops and chip shops, Tracey took a leap of faith. To her surprise—and lasting gratitude—people showed up. That was May 2005. By November of that same year, the Boro Cheer cheerleading team was born, laying the foundation for what would become the now-thriving Rayz All-Stars.

Today, Rayz All-Stars is the school’s competitive cheerleading division, with teams regularly competing at the UKCA Nationals and bringing home numerous titles over the years. These talented athletes train at Loud Studios in Milnrow, where they focus on cheer technique, stunts, tumbling, and performance.

The school’s weekly dance and cheer classes take place at two main venues: Littleborough Boxing Club on Wednesdays and Loud Studios in Milnrow on Mondays and Thursdays, providing flexibility and access for local families across the area.

Tracey Ray’s dancers and cheerleaders have also proudly represented Littleborough far beyond the classroom. They’ve taken part in local carnivals, charity events, the Littleborough Christmas light switch-on, and even graced the stage of Britain’s Got Talent.

A highlight of this milestone year will be the 20th Anniversary Showcase on 5th July, Rayz Fusion 2025, where current and former students will come together to celebrate two decades of dedication, talent, and community spirit.

Through good times and challenges—including the uncertainty of the COVID-19 pandemic—the school has remained a source of joy and resilience. “Our dancers and cheerleaders stayed so loyal and understanding during those crazy times,” says Tracey. “I’m incredibly thankful.”

Key to the school’s long-term success has been the unwavering support of Tracey's mother. “My mum has been by my side every step of the way,” she says. “She’s my rock, my best friend, and has done so much.”

Tracey also credits her dedicated assistant coaches for their hard work and loyalty. “I’m so lucky to have such a strong team,” she adds.

Over the past 20 years, the school has become more than just a place to learn routines—it’s become a dance and cheer family. “It’s been amazing to see so many of our dancers grow up here,” Tracey says. “Thank you to everyone who’s been a part of our journey—past and present dancers, cheerleaders, families, and friends. Here’s to many more years of memories!”
