Resident Blocks Construction Trucks in One‑Woman Protest on Hollingworth Road
A resident staged a one‑woman protest today by parking her vehicle across the entrance to the Bloor Homes construction site on Hollingworth Road, temporarily preventing construction trucks from entering.
She later identified herself publicly on social media, explaining that the action was taken out of frustration at what she described as “filth… caused by multiple uncovered trucks” travelling to and from the site. She said the debris, dust clouds and mud on the road were creating unsafe conditions for drivers, pedestrians and wildlife.
“This was the only way to make a one‑man protest to be heard by a site manager,” she wrote, adding that she accepts the need for new housing but wants the developer to “show respect to the wildlife and the community.”
The resident said she had submitted photographs directly to Bloor Homes and urged councillors to walk the road themselves, arguing that the current street‑sweeping efforts were simply “moving the filth onto our homes.”
Councillor Tom Besford has written directly to the site manager and lead contractor after being unable to reach them by phone, copying in senior Council Directors and Heads of Service.
In his message, he describes:
- “fury and chaos” at the site
- residents distressed by noise, dust and debris
- confusion over whether a house was occupied or not
- concerns about uncovered trucks and road contamination
- a request for immediate cleaning and a clear plan of action
- frustration at the lack of communication from the developer
He also asked the developer to provide:
- a mobile contact number for urgent issues
- a plan to resolve the situation
- details of how they intend to communicate with residents going forward
The tone of the letter indicates that the matter is now being treated as urgent at council level.
The protest comes after several weeks of complaints from residents about mud, dust and debris linked to construction traffic on Hollingworth Road, Lake Bank and Milnrow Road. Despite recent assurances from Bloor Homes, residents say the problems have continued, particularly during periods of heavy vehicle movement.
